Salvation

First Baptist Church of Navarre is to help people come to know Jesus Christ in a personal way. We delight in helping people enter into a relationship with Him. As we consider what this means, allow us to ask you two questions:

    1) Why does someone need to be saved?; and,
    2) How does someone come to know Jesus? Let’s think about these for a moment.

Why does someone need to be saved?

The Bible responds to this first question by making a couple of statements we need to be aware of. First, we need to be saved because of sin. The Old Testament book of Isaiah says that our sins have separated us from God (Isaiah 59:2). Since we are separated from God, we need help in getting to Him. Jesus explained this in the New Testament. In the book of John Jesus stated that He is “the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through” Him (John 14:6). According to Jesus, no one can get to God unless they come through Him.

In summary, then, individuals need to be saved because they are separated from God by their sin. And, there is only one way to get to God - Jesus.

How does someone get saved?

According to the Bible, an individual can come to saving faith by acknowledging a couple of realities.

We are sinners. The Apostle Paul explained that “all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God” (Romans 3:23). Every person on earth has sinned. We are all guilty. Consequently, we must admit this to the Lord.

    b.   We can turn to Jesus and ask for His help. Again, Paul wrote that

“Whoever will call on the name of the Lord will be saved”

(Romans 10:13). After confessing that we are sinners, we next

need to acknowledge that we need Jesus’ help and that we need

Him to forgive us of our sins. So, we turn to Him.

    c.   We invite Him to come into our lives and help us be who He

wants us to be. John said that “as many as received Him, to them

He gave the right to come children of God” (John 1:12). When we

receive Jesus, we become a part of the family of God.
